A Big Kid Room for Our Twin Boys

A PEEK INSIDE OUR BIG BOY TWINS’ SHARED BEDROOM.

Designing a room for our “big” twin boys was a challenge in a lot of ways. Me being the person that I am - I want to do things my way. Alas, I also recognize that they’re their own people now, and that I need to honor that.

For the most part, my boys aren’t too picky - but they did want to inject their personalities into their space. Heck, I remember having huge opinions at their ages, so it’s a wonder that they haven’t been more demanding!

I think we’re finally at a point where I’m happy with how things are looking — and they are, too.

BEDS

Their beds were an amazing yard sale find by my sister. These were in our old home. I paired them with some buffalo check duvets and skirts, as well as some wicker trunks that I’ve been collecting over the years. They’re great for hidden storage, and the boys can keep whatever they want in them (within limits, ha!)

DRESSER

The dresser was my dad’s and is so special. It’s heavy (and yes, we do have that missing pull) and handsome and really adds to the space.

ART

I’ve embraced the sailing theme and think they have, too. I also love the Georgia pennant that belonged to my late brother - and how his photo looks down at them from a silver frame on their bookshelf. It’s so special to me!

MISCELLANEOUS

The majority of these finds are second hand. The rug is from EBay, as is the majority of the art. The bookshelf was once oak - I painted it the same color as their trim (Ghost Whisperer by PPG Paints) and I love the way it turned out.

Their curtains are my favorite IKEA hack, and I paired them with blackout shades from Home Depot.
